The next question is...

How do you go about figuring out if something is what God is asking you to do, or just something you came up with on your own?

If your not sure if it's God or not, how do you differentiate?

These aren't rhetorical questions, I want to know how you figure it out. Because I'm still not sure about this thing I think God wants me to do.

Caleb asked me this question about two weeks ago. I didn't have a specific answer because I think God responds to each person in a unique way.

For me, it seems to be a peace, a greater calm for one decision vs another.

Last year a person I know twisted a situation around causing bad rumors about my family. I was spitin' mad and wanted to fire back at them. The next day I heard a scripture on the radio about putting wood on a fire only makes it burn hotter.

Over the next two weeks, this same scripture was brought to my attention through various ways.

I knew, no matter how much I wanted to spout off, I had to keep my mouth shut. And I did.

I guess my point is- if God has something for you to do, look for the subtle signs of conformation. And if you are thinking this is something you put in your own mind, look for those signs too.

Maybe it wont be a scripture. Maybe God will use a conversation with someone, or a blog you might read.

If you aren't sure, ask God to provide an answer. He will, be patiend

Wow, that's a tough one, but I really do agree with Rebekah. God will either give you a peace about it or there will be unrest.
Our pastor has been speaking about fear and worry and basically saying the reason we do that so much - worry and fear - (especially in our culture) is we are so "instant" oriented. In other words, we want everything right now and don't want to wait. There are several scriptures that the Lord used to speak to me regarding this: "Be still and know that I am God", "they that wait on the Lord will renew their strength.", "In His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand, pleasures forevermore." Basically, just spending time listening to Him. Not asking Him anything but just quietly waiting in His presence.
Last week I was really stressed about something with my son and I started spending just some quiet time with the Lord, not praying just sitting and open to hearing. I didn't even feel as if He spoke anything to me, but I want you to know that the solution to the problem I was having was revealed to me and all was cleared up. I was so humbled that the Lord would do that for me. He wants us to spend time with Him, just to enjoy His presence. I believe if you will continue to do that, He will give you your answer. I am praying for you.
Blessings ~ Debbie

I'll try to make this brief since I really have got to feed my kids, but . . with a heart seeking God's will you take that step forward. God honors our willingness. If it's wrong, he lets you know - our spirit . . you know like mentioned above, otherwise we just go forward and trust Him to keep you on the path. Like the shephard with the sheep . . he doesn't necessarily show the sheep every exact footstep they need to take, but he will keep them on the general path . . . and He is able to use it all for his Glory. You feel like it's teh right thing , then go for it! God does the rest.
And yes, this does mean that I don't believe that God is limited to ONE way.
